Physical distancing has not stopped Maple Ridge — Pitt Meadows School District No. 42 students from finding unique and creative ways to celebrate the holiday season.
Teachers and students at Samuel Robertson Technical have been keeping the festivities going with a series of events and celebrations this month. Members of the school community donned their favourite team’s jerseys during Jersey Day, while staff member Steve Damos’ class wore red and green as part of December’s Spirit Day.
“Staff love to get involved at SRT and the kids like seeing teachers dressed up as much as their peers,” said SRT vice principal Michelle Allen.
Band students at Maple Ridge Secondary were busy this month getting ready for their live-streamed holiday concerts. The class held a physically-distanced recording session in the school gym ahead of their Jingle Bell Rock Winter Showcase and the Concert Holiday Special.
MRS is not the only school turning to web-streaming to celebrate this year.
Eric Langton Elementary held a series of school spirit days, which culminated in a sing-along over Zoom organized by student leaders.
Decorations and festive art displays have been an important part of celebrating the season.
At Pitt Meadows Secondary, students held a Countdown to Christmas calendar puzzle that students and staff participated in each day.
Classes at Pitt Meadows Elementary and Davie Jones Elementary held door-decorating contests, while students Alexander Robinson Elementary posted hygiene reminders as part of a holiday advent calendar.
