Pitt Meadows Elementary teacher-librarian Diane Simard recommends “The Night the Lights Went Out on Christmas” by Ellis Paul.
“This is a fun rhyming story about a neighbourhood where, year after year, the neighbours try to outdo one another with their Christmas lights and decorations. One year, on Christmas night, their power-sucking ways take out the world’s power grid, and they are left in the dark,” explains Simard. “On that night, Little Missy Johnson takes notice of the stars above – never before seen so clearly! It changed the neighbourhood forever; people no longer cared about the decorations. This book reminds us that sometimes the best Christmases are those that are simple.”
