Garibaldi Secondary is holding its second annual Arts Night this month featuring student work from its culinary, visual arts, music, film, dance and theatre departments.
“We have such an abundance of talent at this school,” said Whitney Mullens, an art, drama and dance teacher at Garibaldi. “This night gives friends and family an opportunity to witness and celebrate the hard work and dedication it takes to be successful in the arts. It is a moment to embrace vulnerability and creativity, as they often go hand-in-hand.”
Drama teacher and interdisciplinary arts academy director Sharmila Miller agreed, adding the students put a lot of time and effort into the work that will be showcased.
“Art is meant to be witnessed and shared,” she said. “This is an event you definitely don’t want to miss.”
The display of interdisciplinary arts is being held this year on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visual arts and culinary students will kick off the evening in the cafeteria and arts classrooms, with the performing arts students taking centre stage in the theatre at 7:15 p.m.
“Students from all our various arts programs get to show off their skills and learning with live music, art displays, theatre performances, and delicious food,” said Brent McGimpsey, the school’s teaching chef. “We started this last year and it went incredibly well so we have decided to make it a yearly thing.”
Admission is by donation at the gym entrance on the west side of the school. All funds raised will support the arts programs.
