2018 Leaders of Tomorrow: Zahra Squalli Houssaini

Zahra is an exemplary young woman. As a student, she always goes above and beyond on all assignments and exceeds expectations across subjects.

Representing Kanaka Creek at the SD42 Public Speaking finals over four consecutive years, Zahra has a natural talent for researching, speaking, and capturing the attention of her audience. In developing a persuasive and confident voice, her selection of topics is always thought-provoking and challenging for listening ears. She was described by her teacher as being “undeniably one of the best public speakers I have seen for her age.”

As a leader, Zahra is quick to volunteer for numerous school and community opportunities, often bringing along a group of friends. Not only is Zahra actively involved at school, but she also was recently chosen to have one of the lead parts in Mary Poppins. Her leadership skills have enabled Zahra to represent Kanaka Creek in the wider community, such as through her involvement in the District Student Advisory Council. She is a very active member of the Me to We group, and a leader in the community. Zahra always puts her best foot forward in everything she does.

About Leaders of Tomorrow

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.

The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2017/18 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2018 Leaders of Tomorrow.
