Keenan leads by example, builds up others, and is a willing team-player or leader depending on what the situation calls for.
As a natural leader, Keenan seeks opportunities to get involved in positive ways, bringing along with him a willing group. Keenan’s teacher, Mr. Moran, describes him as “an awesome young man with amazing talents and a lot of personality.” Keenan helps sets a positive tone both in the classroom and the school. Having a great sense of humour and being aware of the needs of others contribute to his ability to connect. He thoughtfully includes others.
Both academically and athletically, Keenan works hard and achieves notable results. We often find inspiration in Keenan’s desire to give back to the school and community. He is actively involved in the Me to We team and was a founding member of the school’s environmental Green Team. “I wanted to help the school improve, and I found the Green Team was a good way to get involved and help others understand the importance of reducing garbage and recycling,” says Keenan.
In the community, Keenan is part of the Haney Neptune swim club and water polo team and has helped win eight provincial medals. In speaking to the importance of leadership, Keenan believes “being a really good role model for the younger kids is very important. They follow in your footprints.” If Keenan is representative of his generation, Canada has a lot to look forward to in the future.
About Leaders of Tomorrow
The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.
The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2018/19 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom. Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2019 Leaders of Tomorrow.
