Marcelino Magar is an active member of the Golden Ears Elementary community. He is interested in helping people and believes everyone can make a difference.
Marcelino is an excellent role model of our school motto: “Take care of yourself. Take care of others. Take care of our school.” He leads by example. For example, for Tech Club he is part of a team that sets events up for the school and for Library Club helps in the school’s library so others have easy access to books. As well, Marcelino is a kindergarten monitor who shows great patience and compassion in his interactions with the younger students. Another school initiative that Marcelino is involved in is the ME to WE club, which has raised over $5000 this school year alone (2018-19).
Marcelino is also active in the community. He volunteers at Planet Ice helping kids learn how to skate and also helps fix and build things in his church. When asked about the motivation behind his great involvement at school and in the community, Marcelino shared that he believes we all need to take an active role in order to strengthen connections between us all.
Marcelino is living his beliefs. He believes we should all do something in our community or in our schools because those little things can make a big difference. It doesn’t matter whether it is something as simple as picking up garbage off of your street or as big as planning a fundraiser because anything will help. Marcelino wants people to remember: even small contributions can make a big difference!
About Leaders of Tomorrow
The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.
The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2018/19 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom. Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2019 Leaders of Tomorrow.
