2016 Leaders of Tomorrow: Matthew Koehler – SRT

During the 2015-16 school year, Matthew was a student at Samuel Robertson Technical. Matthew, a future Hometown Hero candidate, is an excellent student and athlete.

Matthew is a strong leader and member of our school community. He has served on our Student Council since his Grade 8 year, he has been an Honour Roll or a Top Titan (straight A’s) eight times and he was our “Spirit King” twice.

Just recently, Matthew lead our Senior Boys Ball Hockey team to the first-ever Ball Hockey Championship. Matthew has also given over 100 hours volunteering at the Ridge Canoe and Kayak Club.

On top of this, Matthew trains 11 times per week before and after school.  He is the U17 6,000 Meter Canadian Sprint Kayaking National Champion and he has competed internationally as a member of Team Canada in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Matthew’s goals include competing in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

We are very proud to call Matthew an SRT Titan and we look forward to cheering him on in Tokyo!  GO Titan!

The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2015/16 school year – there are many others  who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2016 Leaders of Tomorrow.
