2017 Leaders of Tomorrow: Sophia Halas – Yennadon

Yennadon is lucky to have an amazing student like Sophia Halas. You can pick Sophia out of the crowd by her socks which are like herself, special and unique. Sophia is a caring student who is interested in both local and global causes. She helps her school’s leadership team raise money to fund local needs such as the SPCA and the Friends in Need Food bank.

For global issues she has helped raise money for health care in Haiti by participating in bake sales and friendship bracelet sales. She helps raise awareness to causes such as lack of education for all children and child labour. World Vision is also important to Sophia and she contributes to that outside of her school time. Sophia keeps active with sports such as ultimate frisbee, basketball and volleyball. She will be heading off to MRSS for the 2017-18 school year. Yennadon will miss her bright smile, amazing contributions and those wonderful socks.

About Leaders of Tomorrow

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.

The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2016/17 school year – there are many others  who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2017 Leaders of Tomorrow.
