The Maple Ridge Secondary cheer team has plenty to cheer about after returning from the inaugural BC Provincial Cheerleading Championship with a first-place title and scholastic grand champion title for earning the highest score of all school squads.
The team, which had a pair of zero-deduction runs, also earned the coveted full-paid World’s bid, which means they have qualified to compete at the International Cheerleading Union’s World School Cheerleading Championships in Florida next February.
More than 50 teams from across the province competed at the BC championship, which was hosted at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops on April 13.
“We’ve had a great season. The kids work so hard through everything. We as coaches can only ask them to go out and perform their best and they did just that. We are all so excited for them, they’ve earned this!” said coach Sofie Van De Keere.
