Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District trustees and staff visited Garibaldi secondary on Wednesday to participate in a student roundtable.
“The purpose was to connect our trustees with students and to engage in a dialogue that focused on student engagement, student experience and student voice,” explained Garibaldi principal Darren Rowell.
Board chair Mike Murray started the session by outlining the role that the board of education plays in SD42. Students, district staff and trustees then engaged in focused discussions that included topics such as “What are the types of things that happen in classes that engage you in your learning?” and “What is your one hope when you graduate?”
“The feedback will be shared with staff and students at Garibaldi and be used to help shape the learning and school experience going forward,” said Rowell. “All participants expressed that this was a valuable experience.”
