Elizabeth Florence was a Grade 6 student at Davie Jones Elementary during the 2016/17 school year. Elizabeth has continued to demonstrate leadership qualities in and out of the school community by supporting her peers, speaking and performing at school assemblies, and always maintaining a positive attitude.
Being a member of the Katzie First Nations, she takes great pride in her heritage and cultural identity. Elizabeth often volunteers to do the welcoming and acknowledgements at the school assemblies.
In addition to that, she put great effort into writing an informative speech on “Residential Schools.” When asked why she chose that topic she stated: “It’s important for people to talk about this… Some of those people were abused and it’s important for others to understand what they went through.”
Elizabeth articulates her thoughts and beliefs with great passion and is always eager to share these with the school community. This desire to advocate for others is also demonstrated within the classroom. She is an empathetic and compassionate individual who continually supports her peers. Elizabeth’s classmates are fortunate to have her since she is always there to offer a helping hand and a shoulder to lean on no matter what the circumstances.
Overall, Elizabeth is a well-rounded individual who consistently displays a sense of community involvement. Her contributions in and out of our school have provided her with the skills necessary to be a Leader of Tomorrow.
About Leaders of Tomorrow
The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.
The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2016/17 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.
Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2017 Leaders of Tomorrow.
