Jaida Ellis
Jaida is a great choice for Leader of Tomorrow from Edith McDermott Elementary.
She is very involved in school events as a go-to member of our Global Citizens leadership group that organizes fundraisers and spirit days. She is also very helpful in and around both the class and the school, and is always inclusive and kind. Jaida is a member of the district student advisory council and brings ideas back from their meetings to our school.
She is a great role model – especially for her kindergarten buddy and for the class she monitors at lunch time. Jaida also deserves recognition for the extra time she volunteers to help in the school office and for her work to decorate our school. In the community, Jaida is heavily involved in hockey and helps grow the sport by volunteering to give others a chance to play. She also supports organizations like the SPCA and Children’s hospitals through donations.
Daniel Kalinich
Daniel Kalinich demonstrates leadership in everything that he undertakes at school and in the community. He has been involved as a leader in all of the competitive athletic activities at Edith McDermott Elementary, ensuring the inclusion of all and setting a positive tone for all teams. His leadership also shows in his willingness to offer help for any school activities, and in his reputation as a dependable responsible student.
Participating in Set Up Crew, buddy classes, or just helping out around the school, Dan is always the first to step up and always sees the jobs through. He is dependable, reliable and inclusive, and is a fine example of a leader of today and tomorrow.
About Leaders of Tomorrow
The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District (SD42) has teamed up with the Maple Ridge News to celebrate local students who are making a difference at school and in the community. Elementary and secondary students featured as Leaders of Tomorrow were picked by their principals for making positive achievements in academics, sports, arts and community involvement.
The list is just a sample of outstanding students in the school district selected by their school during the 2017/18 school year – there are many others who were equally deserving of recognition for their exemplary achievements both inside and outside the classroom.
Every Tuesday throughout the school year, SD42 will profile a student selected as one of the 2018 Leaders of Tomorrow.
