Want to get a head start on a career in the trades while you’re still in high school?
Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District No. 42 is hosting a trades information session on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Thomas Haney Secondary, from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm. The event will showcase the nine trades programs offered at the school district.
“At School District No. 42, we endeavour to offer as much choice as possible to students. In partnership with several post-secondary institutions and trades training organizations, we offer nine specialized apprenticeship training programs for students in grades 10-12,” says Brad Dingler, trades and apprenticeship coordinator.
“Our programs allow students the chance to earn their Dogwood Diploma as well as complete level one technical training for an in-demand trade. Starting on the path toward a skilled trade while still in high school can provide a jumpstart to many high-paying career opportunities.”
On February 20, parents/guardians and students will be able to talk to employment services organizations and local businesses in attendance at the trades showcase. There will also be a Q&A session with former trades students and employers. Appetizers prepared by the award-winning SD42 culinary program will be served.
Thomas Haney Secondary is located at 23000 – 116 Ave., Maple Ridge. This is a FREE event, but registration is requested: https://apprenticeship.sd42.ca/20202021trades-information-session/
