Last week Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District trustees and staff visited Thomas Haney Secondary for a student roundtable discussion.
“The purpose of the roundtable at Thomas Haney was to listen and hear from our students about their education journey,” explained board chairperson Korleen Carreras.
“Our board believes in student voice and has made it a priority in our work plan. The information that we hear during these events is integral to our work at the board table, and we very much value the students’ input.”
School District No. 42 hosts a district-wide student forum every two years and two to three school-specific roundtables like the event at Thomas Haney each year.
Approximately forty THSS students from grades 8-12 attended the roundtable talks on May 8.
“The students spoke about their passion for learning and how they will take that with them even after graduation and also their commitment to mentorship and creating the best community possible,” added Carreras. “The students at THSS truly represent the vision, mission, and values of our school district. These events are absolutely a highlight and make me proud to be a school trustee.”
