Students at Yennadon Elementary are recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Week with art and education.
Janine Leblanc’s Grade 1 class painted a rock with hand prints and the words Every Child Matters, while decorating a tree with orange paper shirts with messages.
“We wanted something to be a reminder every day, as reconciliation is not just on one day,” Leblanc said. “It’s to give all the children and people who don’t have a voice, a voice.”
Students across School District 42 are learning about truth and reconciliation. Virtual events have been held in classrooms throughout the week and the Aboriginal Education Department has put together a list of online resources students can take home to discuss with their families.
