A sizeable donation from Davie Jones Elementary to the Terry Fox Foundation meant a snazzy new ’do for the school’s principal Dennis Tjernagel on Thursday.
Tjernagel’s hair was cut into a mohawk, and died a deep pink hue during an assembly, as a result of students in his school rising to a school-wide fundraising challenge for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Terry’s brother, Fred Fox, was on-hand to receive a cheque from the school for a total of $4,457.
This trumped the school’s donation amount last year of $1,343.
“Thank you very much, this is wonderful,” said Fox, who has lived in Maple Ridge for more than 30 years.
“It’s truly amazing to know that after 35 years of Terry’s Marathon of Hope, young students and young teachers are continuing what Terry started,” he added.
“We all know somebody that’s been touched by cancer, and that money that you raise is truly making a difference.”
