Students across the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows school district raised thousands for children in need in the community for Christmas.
The Coins for Kids program brought in $6,222.25 for the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper Society.
Almost the same as last year when the schools raised $6,512, although half of that was raised by students from Garibaldi Secondary School who raised $3,373.
And a donation of more than 50 new toys was received by volunteers at the hamper society from the students at Fairview Elementary.
The deadline for registrations for a Christmas hamper this year is on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Applications must be made online though the Christmas Hamper Society’s website.
Applicants must confirm that they will not apply to another agency for help and that all children listed on the application are in their full-time care.
