Students across the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows school district raised thousands for children in need in the community for Christmas.
The Coins for Kids program brought in $6,222.25 for the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Christmas Hamper Society.
Almost the same as last year when the schools raised $6,512, although half of that was raised by students from Garibaldi Secondary School who raised $3,373.
This year 11 schools took part in the fundraising program, including: Alexander Robinson Elementary which raised $146, Laity View Elementary raised $501, Whonnock Elementary raised $214.10, Davie Jones Elementary raised $269.20, Albion Elementary raised $127.95, Pitt Meadows Elementary raised $731.23, and Golden Ears Elementary which raised $1,240.37.
And a donation of more than 50 new toys was received by volunteers at the hamper society from the students at Fairview Elementary.
