Changes to 2018/19 and 2019/20 Proposed District School Calendars
Family Day statutory holiday moved
On February 9, 2018, the provincial government announced that, effective 2019, the Family Day statutory holiday will move from the 2nd Monday of February to the 3rd Monday of February. This change was not reflected in the initial 2018/19 and 2019/20 Proposed District School Calendars, which went out for consultation before the announcement was made.
The calendars presented to the Board of Education at the March 7, 2018 public meeting will include this change. The district will also recommend that the February non-instructional and schools-not-in-session days immediately preceding the Family Day holiday be moved so they continue to precede this statutory holiday.
The new proposed dates are as follows:
2018/19 Proposed District School Calendar:
Non-instructional day Thursday, February 14, 2019
Schools not in Session day Friday, February 15, 2019
Family Day holiday Monday, February 18, 2019
2019/20Proposed District School Calendar:
Non-instructional day Thursday, February 13, 2020
Schools not in Session day Friday, February 14, 2020
Family Day holiday Monday, February 17, 2020?
Non-Instructional Day added to support new provincial curriculum implementation for 2018/19 school year only
On February 2, 2018, school districts received notice from the Ministry of Education that the requirements for school calendars in the 2018/19 school year only have been changed to include one additional required non-instructional day supporting provincial curriculum implementation. This change was not reflected in the initial 2018/19 Proposed District School Calendars, which went out for consultation before the announcement was made.
The calendars presented to the Board of Education at the March 7, 2018 public meeting will include the proposed date of Monday, April 29, 2019 to accommodate for this additional required non-instructional day.
* The proposed calendars have been revised with all changes marked in red.
