Survey: Proposed Preliminary Budget 2023/24

At its April 12, 2023, public meeting, the Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows Board of Education received the Proposed Preliminary Budget 2023/24 for information. 

The board welcomes your feedback on this proposed preliminary budget, which includes budget balancing proposals in the following key areas:

  • Support for School Growth Plans
  • Learning Services
  • Support for Operational Plans
  • Regular Student Transportation
  • Implementation of Strategic Facilities Plan

Your Voice, Your School – Input Session on Eric Langton Elementary Design

YOUR VOICE, YOUR SCHOOL

Join us for a special public input session on the design of the new Eric Langton Elementary School. Station One Architects and school district staff will be on site on April 13, 2023, to present a draft of the design and collect your ideas on the general use of the building, the site, and on program suggestions for the Neighbourhood Learning Centre (NLC) hosted in the new school. Registration for summer learning starts on April 18

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District is offering the following summer learning options for 2023:

Elementary – English and French Immersion (up to and including Grade 6)

  • Location: Golden Ears Elementary (23124 118 Avenue, Maple Ridge)
  • Schedule: Wednesday, July 5 – Friday, July 21 (9 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.)

Grade 7 to 8 Transition Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (ADST)

  • Location: Thomas Haney Secondary (23000 – 116 Avenue, Maple Ridge)
  • Schedule: Wednesday, July 5 – Friday, July 21 (9 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.)

Grade 8-9 Literacy and Numeracy Skill-Building

  • Location: Thomas Haney Secondary (23000 – 116 Avenue, Maple Ridge)
  • Schedule: Wednesday, July 5 – Wednesday, July 26 (8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

Grade 10-12 Academic Courses Leading to Graduation

  • Location: Thomas Haney Secondary (23000 – 116 Avenue, Maple Ridge)
  • Schedule: Wednesday, July 5 – Wednesday, July 26 (8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

Families can register through the Parent Portal (https://parents.sd42.ca) between noon, Tuesday, April 18 and 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. Registrations received after the deadline or once capacity has been reached will be waitlisted. Please note that priority will be given to SD42 students, followed by the registration time stamp.

Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District receives green light for Harry Hooge Elementary addition and Pitt Meadows Secondary replacement project

Maple Ridge, BC – The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education and Child Care has approved two of its 2023/24 Major Capital Plan submissions. The district’s submission for an addition to Harry Hooge Elementary School and the seismic replacement of Pitt Meadows Secondary School (PMSS) have both been identified as supported projects, allowing the district to move forward with the development of business cases. SURVEY: Proposed calendars for 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26

The proposed district school calendars for 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 (Regular, Distributed Learning, and Kanaka Creek Elementary) were presented to the Board of Education at the February 15, 2023, public meeting and are now out for public consultation.

The survey will be open from February 16, 2023, to March 18, 2023 (4:00 pm).

All feedback will be reviewed by senior staff for possible revisions once public consultation concludes. The proposed calendars will then be submitted to the Board of Education for approval at the April 12, 2023, public board meeting.

Grade 7 to 8 Transfer Period opens February 2

Online Grade 8 Transition Period registration is coming up for students going into Grade 8 next year. Registration opens on the Parent Portal at noon, on Thursday, February 2, 2023, and closes end of day, Friday, February 17, 2023.

Transfers After Deadline

If you miss the registration deadline, you will need to complete your transfer request on the portal under the Early Enrolment September Request – New; Transfer; Withdraw (2023/24) school year.

DPAC Grade 8 registration online information night

Do you have a child going into Grade 8 next year? The District Parent Advisory Council is inviting parents to join its annual secondary school online information session on January 26 (7 p.m.).

The Zoom portion is limited to the first 90 participants, however the presentation will also be broadcast live and saved on the DPAC YouTube channel for all to see.

SD42 invites you to our annual Trades Showcase

The Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows School District invites you to attend our annual Trades Showcase. The event will feature panel discussions with industry professionals and former students followed by a trades fair and a dedicated breakout room for woman interested in exploring their options in the trades.

  • Time: 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

The Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows School District offers seven dedicated Trades Training programs in partnership with BCIT, KPU and VCC. In addition, we also reserve seats in programs that we cannot run directly at our facilities. This year we were able to offer 137 first year apprenticeship seats students in the district.

  • Opening Remarks: 6 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
  • Industry Panel Q & A: 6:15 p.m.  – 7:15 p.m.

  • Women in Trades Break out Session: 7:15 p.m.  – 7:45 p.m.

Note: Refreshments will be provided by our PC1 Culinary class. Corporate attendees are encouraged to bring any media/promotional material that you would like to share.
